| Antique Fetish Comicbooks |
Recently found at an estate sale or used book store, (different sources vary) by comic archivist Craig Yoe, fetish art comicbooks penned by Superman co-creator Joe Shuster has now been published as "Secret Identity: The Fetish Art of Superman's co-creator Joe Shuster." The Gotham Group has optioned screen rights for the book.
Back in the day, these comics were sold undercover and under counters in bookshops, until the crackdown on comics began and ultimately went to the Supreme Court's sensationalistic censorship trials of 1954.
According to Yoe, "Some people felt that when I discovered these books, I should have buried them in the back yard," Yoe said. "To me, it's part of his legacy, the idea that in addition to the great character of Superman, he had this whole different side to him, and did brilliant work, in secret."
Naked women with whips cracking big men of steel. Oh baby! And just what were SMan, Lois and Jimmy Olsen doing back in the day??? |
